Do you know the names of the parents of Cecelia Steiner Weiss for my genealogy project?
Hi Helane. Thanks for the question. Cecelia’s parents were Hannah and Herman Steiner. Her mother’s maiden name was Heller.
Thank you for the information. I shall continue my project.
interesting, but in Houdini’s book, A Magician Among the Spirits, he states that his mother’s birthday is June 17th! not June 16th..
Hi Dan. In the same book, Houdini claimed his own birthday was on April 5 (p. 277). The usual lie was April 6 in Appleton, despite the actual date being March 24 in Budapest. And this doesn’t even scratch the surface of Houdini lies and misinformation. Cecelia’s gravestone marks her birth as June 16, 1841, which I believe unless the family got it wrong (you can see a photo of it here: https://houdinimuseum.wordpress.com/2012/12/12/the-houdini-grave/grave07). If there’s one thing I’ve learned while studying the life and career of Houdini, it’s this: He wrote his own story and created his own legend pretty much from scratch, so anything he said or wrote is subject to question. Thanks for your comment.
